Minimal pioneer Philip Glass requires no introduction: his concert works, operas and film scores are known and loved by millions of people and have changed the history of music. Tonight, Slagwerk Den Haag presents their new album Vitreous Body, which centres around Glass’ radical early work. The Dutch composer and Glass admirer Anthony Fiumara reworked several works for an unorthodox set of instruments and he wrote commentary pieces on the early work of Glass for Slagwerk Den Haag. An evening to let the mind drift and experience the hypnotic power of music.
With his innovative work in the 60s and 70s, Philip Glass was one of the pioneers of minimal music. Slagwerk Den Haag is known for its rock solid performances in this repertory – it is not without reason that the album Vitreous Body will be released on Glass’ own label, Orange Mountain. Among the pieces Fiumara arranged for Slagwerk Den Haag are the classic Music In Similar Motion (1969) and Mad Rush (1979), one of the most famous meditative piano pieces of all time.
