SHUJAAT KHAN

One of the most important representatives of North Indian classical music on sitar, with a unique style imitative of the subtleties of the human voice.

Ustad (master) Shujaat Khan is one of the greatest North Indian classical musicians of his generation. The sitar player has a unique style known as the ‘gayaki ang’, which is imitative of the subtleties of the human voice. At the Bimhuis he will perform with tabla player Nihar Mehta.

Shujaat Khan’s musical pedigree extends seven generations. Alongside his sitar playing he has also made an important contribution to his musical culture as a singer. His albums such as Rain and Lost Songs of the Silk Road have been highly acclaimed in the west and he has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, New York and Royal Albert Hall, London. A highlight in his oeuvre is the album Naina Lagai Ke with legendary Bollywood-singer Asha Bhosle.
