Django Amsterdam

Robin Nolan Trio & Sandro Roy: Hot Club Nouveau

From Transylvania to Paris and from The Beatles to the present at the premier jazz manouche event in The Netherlands.

Expect fireworks on guitar and violin as the climax to Django Amsterdam. Top players from the international jazz manouche world will unite for this tenth edition of Django Amsterdam. Every year the weekend-long festival is dedicated to guitar icon Django Reinhardt (1910-1953), originator of gypsy jazz, jazz manouche or swing manouche.

In Hot Club Nouveau, Robin Nolan and Sandro Roy will take you on a musical journey. From Transsylvania to 1930s Paris and from George Harrison and The Beatles to the present. With fascinating stories, lots of humour and an acoustic virtuosity that is deeply rooted in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and his Quintette du Hot Club de France.

Englishman Robin Nolan travels the world with a guitar over his shoulder, with Amsterdam as his home base. He’s regarded as a jazz manouche authority everywhere he goes. He was a good friend of George Harrison, he regularly performed with Bill Wyman, and he received praise from Willie Nelson.

Sandro Roy was born in a Sinti family and was taught violin since the age of seven. Since then he has won important awards and received education at prestigious music schools. His debut album Where I Come From was released in 2015 on the label Skip Records.

As a pre-show, Adrian Holovaty will perform a melodic set at our restaurant with his trio. The guitarist from Chicago takes inspiration from Chet Atkins, The Beatles and, of course, Django Reinhardt, among many others.
