Linda Fredriksson Juniper

Free-thinking Finnish saxophonist explores their quiet, introverted side.

Linda Fredriksson is known for their fierce alto and baritone saxophone playing. Especially their bari playing is praised, as well as the adventurous excursions on other instruments including bass clarinet, synthesizer, and electronics. With their Juniper project, Fredriksson explores their introverted side, with quiet compositions that come straight from the heart. Their melodies are like vocal lines and were inspired by singer-songwriters such as Feist and Neil Young.

Juniper’s first album appeared last year and was awarded with an Emma Award and a Teosto Award, prestigious Finnish and Scandinavian music prizes. Linda Fredriksson played in numerous bands and ensembles, including Mopo, Ricky-Tick Big Band, and Superposition. Improvisation is an essential factor in their playing. Time and again they prove that they can handle a great many different styles, from punk to swing, and from minimal to bombastic.
