KARNATIC LAB FESTIVAL

The new trio STriCat (Romanian for ‘broken’) blends Romanian folk music with European hard bop in an unusual setting of trumpet, accordion and cymbal. Before the concert there will be the premiere of the documentary that Mano Camon made about cymbalist Lukacs Miklos, who played in the Bimhuis with Beata Palya last month. After the intermission, two Indian musicians from Bangalore and an Indian Bharatanatyam dancer from Boston pay a tribute to the Indian vocalist Jahnavi Jayaprakash who passed away in 2002. She was one of the most important sources of inspiration for the Karnatic Lab and with her concerts and workshops she was of great meaning for the relationship of the Dutch musicians and public with carnatic music. Additionally Karnatic Lab Records will present a new compilation album of her music and video interviews with fragments of concerts by Jahnavi will be showed as well.
