JAIMEO BROWN

Drummer/composer Jaimeo Brown surprised the jazz world this year with his remarkable debut album Transcendence, on which he fuses Afro American spirituals with Eastern tinged jazz and blues. Samples from Alabama gospel singers form the basis for intense music with which Jaimeo Brown continues the tradition of socially aware jazz legends such as John Coltrane and Max Roach.

‘The music is simultaneously calming and challenging, dramatic and inspiring’, commented Downbeat. ‘In the hands of these artists Transcendence makes absolute and perfect sense.’ The New York based drummer plays the songs of Transcendence together with the renowned tenor saxophonist JD Allen and with guitarist/producer Chris Scholar, who uses electronics to trigger samples and create soundscapes.

Jaimeo Brown started his career in the Charles Mingus Big Band. He has collaborated with countless jazz musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Pharoah Sanders and Kenny Garrett. He has also worked with leading artists in pop music, r&b, house and hip-hop, such as Stevie Wonder, Q-Tip en Carl Craig.

There will be one set, without intermission.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
