This live film concert features the images of rugged, deserted coastlines that pianist Jaco Benckhuijsen visited with his folding sea kayak for his eponymous book. From his a small, shaky boat, he filmed the immense seas and coastal regions around Iceland and the Aleutian Islands. Jaco, who was trained as a jazz pianist, will play and improvise on the basis of the book together with renowned percussionist Joost Lijbaart.
Unique images of black lava beaches, icebergs and reflective seas are provided with a soundtrack by the two musicians, through fragmented piano, electronics, rolling rhythms and the rustling wind and waves. Jaco will open the concert with a lecture based on the book. It features stories from three solo sea kayak journeys along the Pacific Ocean. This concert brings together all his passions: music, writing, filming and photography.
