Immanuel Wilkins is a saxophonist with a penchant for grand gestures, with an engaging sound and epic compositions. His first album Omega was named the best of 2020 by New York Times and the most important jazz debut in years by JazzTimes. In early 2022, his most recent album, The 7th Hand, was released on the famed Blue Note label. On this release, Wilkins grapples with themes of religion and spiritualism in relation to music.
Immanuel Wilkins has played regularly with another new jazz hero, vibraphonist Joel Ross. Additionally, he has collaborated with artists from very different genres, and major ones too: Solange Knowles, Wynton Marsalis and Bob Dylan, for example. It shows the scope of the alto saxophonist, who is back on our stage after a year.
The concert tonight will start 30 minutes later than originally planned. The new starting time is 21:00.
Immanuel Wilkins alto sax, Micah Thomas piano, Tyrone Allen bass, Kweku Sumbry drums.
