CUBAN SUMMER SESSIONS: PEDRO LUIS FERRER

Cuban troubadour, active since the 1970s, gives a contemporary twist to traditional Cuban music, for example trova and son. ‘Delightful and highly eccentric Cuban singer-songwriter’ (The Guardian).

Troubadour Pedro Luis Ferrer gives his own twist to traditional Cuban music, for example trovam son, changui and especially guarachas. Since the 1970s he has been an active composer, arranger, singer, guitarist and tresero. His funny and poignant lyrics often originate from his family tradition and comment on contemporary life. ‘Simple but lovely, importing small dissonances and hints of Cuba’s African past’ (New York Times).
