Blue Lines Trio & Mary Oliver
“Fluctuations in Blue – Fragmentations and Fermentations” is a suite in which the group playfully navigates a musical course that remains completely open. In a prismatic manner, original compositions pass by with references to Duke Ellington, Oscar Pettiford, Walt Disney’s cartoon music, Thelonious Monk, John Cage, Steve Lacy and Misha Mengelberg. The listener is taken along in a dynamic whole, the sounding result of which only becomes known afterwards.
The Blue Lines Trio continues its undiminished search for new possibilities of interplay. Tradition and individual input are playfully interwoven in a melting pot of what they call ‘mild anarchy, bouncing swing, crispy chords, mélodies trouvés, soulful ballads, woogie-tunes and interim scores.’ Guest player Mary Oliver adds an essential twist to the trio’s course with her years of multidisciplinary experience, her energy and her distinctive musical personality.
