Bimhuis loves De Ruimte @Sexyland World

Boundery pushing South African energy, a BIMHUIS & De Ruimte evening at SEXYLAND World.

To celebrate their 50th anniversary, BIMHUIS is partnering  with various venues and breeding grounds in Amsterdam in their series BIMHUIS Loves. Together with these partners in jazz, the BIMHUIS will organize five exciting concerts during five Wednesdays in October at the following special venues: De Roode Bioscoop, Zaal100, ZOJazzStage, Splendor and Sexyland World. The entire program is now online.

For this final Wednesday, De Ruimte & BIMHUIS team up to make a special program, full of improvisation, energy and danceable music at Sexyland World! Location of this concert: SEXYLAND World.

Asher Gamedze & James McClure

Asher Gamedze is a Cape Town-based cultural worker, drummer, composer, and bandleader, known for his versatile style that blends free improvisation, soul, rock ‘n roll, and Southern African musical traditions. Gamedze has performed extensively across Africa, Europe, and the USA, earning a strong reputation for his dynamic live performances. Trumpeter James McClure is a breath of fresh air in Amsterdam improvisation with contemporary jazz. Under the umbrella of SITProductions he has formed a new band Sofaya, exploring the rich and diverse culture of South African music. In SEXYLAND, The friends will be performing for the first time together and for the first time in Amsterdam.

Rave and Lumley have been central figures in the Amsterdam improvisation scene for years, known for their dynamic presence and innovative contributions. For this special evening, they are excited to join forces as part of this unique ad hoc quartet, bringing together their deep-rooted expertise in spontaneous composition and their passion for exploring the boundaries of sound.

SOFAYA Soundsystem

SOFAYA Soundsystem is a collective of South African artists from the band SOFAYA (supported by SITP), now stepping into the role of a DJ collective. Last year, they set the BIMHUIS ablaze with their infectious energy and unique sound, blending Afrobeat, jazz, house, and more.
