John Scofield is een van de populairste jazzgitaristen aller tijden. Begin jaren tachtig speelde hij bij Miles Davis, waarna hij een succesvolle solocarrière begon. Zijn ongepolijste stijl blijft herkenbaar, of hij nou akoestische jazz, funk of gospel speelt. ‘His improvisations… represent his expressive balance of anthemic blues phrasing, vocalised sounds, subtly deployed electronics and dramatic bursts of jazzy double-time’ (The Guardian).
