Patricia Beysens
Patricia Beysens (Rotterdam, 1956) is a Dutch singer, specially devoted to German songs from Berlin in the 20s and 30s. The time in which the 'Kabarets', despite of, or thanks to, the economic crisis and political insecurity, were very successfull. These songs were the perfect reflection of satire and humour, melancholic poetry and decadence of those days. Besides this repertoire she also sang a lot of socially engaged songs from the former DDR. She performs songs written by great lyricists as tucholsky and kästner, as well as the raw verses by Bertold Brecht, on music by composers like Krtschil or SCHMITZ. Beysens performs a great many song that were originally written for Marlene Dietrich. Frank Vercruysse is her pianist. Outside the German repertoire Beysens is known for her Jewish (klezmer) repertoire with the bands Klezmokum (Amsterdam) and KlezmicnoiZ (Antwerp). She also performs a jazz repertoire with a big band, or in smaller ensembles. She was a teacher at the Antwerp Jazzstudio for seven years and in the past decade she has been teaching at the Herman Teirlinck Institute.
